I wanted to let you all know about a new "club" that we started up this week. It's called the Superkids club. We are going to start meeting at least once a week (about 20 minutes on Mondays) to talk about our behaviors, actions and emotions. We decided that talking about these things is just as important as talking about reading, math or science! We don't just want to be smart...we want to be kind, caring, brave, self-controlled, attentive and compassionate! I actually believe that these traits will end up making us better students in the long run anyway.
We came up with a club creed this week. We all say that we want to "Change the world...One heart at a time!" If we become Superkids...we can use our "skills" to help those around us. Like a real superhero!
Our meetings are based on a curriculum called Second Step. You can check it out online. Our first set of meetings will focus on "Empathy". How do our actions effect those around us? Pretty big question! I'll keep you updated.
