We're starting to learn about different kinds of graphs in class. So far, we've taken a close look at bar graphs. This is something that you can easily practice at home. Making your own is simple. Use graph paper or use a ruler to help sketch out some graphing lines. Decide what information you want to gather. Let's pretend like we're finding people's favorite foods. Decide which choices you want to offer on your graph. Now, start gathering your data! Ask everyone you know. People who live in your house. People from school. It might even be fun to call family members who live far away! I wonder what Aunt Gertrude's favorite snack is?
When your through creating your graph you can try to make sense of all of the data you've collected. Ask questions like...
1. What food do people like the most?
2. What food do people like the least?
3. How many more people like pizza than hamburgers?
4. How many people did we contact in all?
5. What's a good title for our graph?
I strongly recommend this "just for fun" activity! Bringing math to life is where true learning is going to happen. Have fun! Oh, and don't forget to vote for your favorite food in my survey. The choices are in the "sidebar". I'll post the results later! See you soon.
