Reading Tip Tuesday

Hey guys!  You might have noticed that we've been getting into some heavier stuff with spelling, reading and writing.  You can blame that on the "Long Vowel" sounds.  That's when AEIO or U "say their name".  I tell the kids that if you want the vowel to "say it's name" you gotta do somethin' special.

One special thing you can do is pair two vowels up.  So, "ee" would make the long e sound.  "Ai" would say the long a sound.  Another one would be "oa" for the long o sound.  There's a bunch! Start pointing this out to your kids when you're reading, spelling or writing.  Help them to get QUICK at recognizing when there are two vowels together as a letter team.  Teach them to quickly say the first vowel's name and 90% of the time the word will solve itself.  Here's a little video to help you remember this tricky trick.

Now you try it!  Can you read the list of words below?  Remember...The first one does the talkin!
